Buyer dominated relationships in a supply chain - a case study of four small-sized suppliers.

About 22 pages (6,720 words)

International Small Business Journal, October 1st, 1996

Relationships between big producers and their suppliers have moved from the confrontational relationship seen in the 1960s and 1970s to more long-term, closer links. This trend has been driven by pressure on profits, shorter product life cycles, worldwide competition and greater complexity of business. In a buyer dominated supply chain, the supply chain, the product, production development and the end product are all initiated and controlled by one big manufacturer. Suppliers are often dependent on the manufacturer and must meet his demands on price, deliveries and quality.
