The bilingual musical play 'Zoot Suit,' whose 1981 movie version was directed by playwright Luis Valdez, dwells on Latin American immigrants' experience in the US in the 1940s. Through the Brechtian techniques that the play made liberal use of, the modern influence of European theater was underscored. 'Zoot Suit,' which was the first Latino play on Broadway, also successfully established a link between the pachuco, the play's zoot-suited narrator, and Aztec mythology.
