BP Amoco has approved construction of a 250,000-m.t./year grassroots linear alpha-olefins plant at Nova Chemical's Joffre, AB site. A decision on the plant was delayed for eight months by additional engineering studies (CW, Sept. 23, 1998, p. 5). The company will spend about $200 million on the plant, which will target the Canadian market. Kellogg Brown & Root has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract. Nova is building an ethane cracker at Joffre in partnership with Union Carbide that will supply ethylene feedstock to the BP Amoco unit.
