The terms of the Dayton Peace Acc0i-d (1995) set up a very complex system of sharing between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, a region of mostly ethnic-Serbian people. Both entities have their-own presidents, governments, parliaments, military, and police. Overarching these is a central Bosnian government. In addition, Dayton created the Office of the High Representative, a role filled by British politician Paddy Ashdown since May 2002.
