People have been smacking each other with swords since swords were invented. Originally, the object was to kill the other person. In the sport of fencing, the object is to score more points. Here's a look: Equipment Fencers wear protective helmets and white outfits. Why white? In the early days of the sport, hits were scored by ink on the end of the weapon.
