Serving a flock of 1.5 million people didn't mean Bishop Samuel C. Madison couldn't connect with churchgoers on a personal level.
"He was always approachable," said Zane Crawford, whose parents hosted Madison at home when he was in Detroit. "He never tried to create a fa ade and always was very serious about God's business."
