Andre Previn/LSO ** The Barbican ANDRE Previn says his birth certififcate was lost when his family fled Berlin, so he is not sure whether he is 70 this year or next. He celebrated the milestone anyway last night by conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in two major 20th-century British works. Vaughan Williams wrote his Fifth Symphony when he, too, was 70. He conducted its premiere at the Proms in 1943 when the war was at its height. It is a rather disengaged work, as if from the pen of some distracted twilight home resident. War, what war? Mr Previn conducted the first movement at a sleep...
