"While Rowley's book is fair, straightforwardly written, and deserves a spot on the creaking shelf of Sartre-de Beauvoir literature, the focus on the romantic shenanigans wears thin. It sometimes goes beyond juicy to creepy. And their ideas get short shrift: she devotes less than a page to The Second Sex. Of course, other books have covered the couple's intellectual life ad nauseam, but if the goal of this portrait...
