On March 1, 1957, Dick Ames, a cornet player and lover of jazz music, formed a traditional jazz band called the Bear Cat Jass Band. The musicians came from the Fayetteville Lions Club, and they performed for parties and concerts all over Central New York. They even appeared on the "Ted Mack Amateur Hour" in 1959 (under their former name The Dixie Dandies) and recorded an album in 1962.
