Carr, Red step down for Pitino
A new era in Celtics basketball begins today at the FleetCenter when Rick Pitino is introduced as the team's head coach and president. The old era officially ended yesterday when Red Auerbach relinquished his title of president and M.L. Carr stepped down from the top basketball operations post.
According to reports, Auerbach will remain in the front office in some capacity but his power has been diminished.
Carr, who for three years called the team's personnel shots, resigned as head coach last week.
