The title of Paul Rambali's impressive book might more accurately have been "The Inner Life of Marathon Champion Abebe Bikila" given the depth of what he describes as a "fictional biography". The form is initially a puzzling one - and it would have been helpful if some explanation from Rambali, editor of The Face during the Eighties and more recently an author of travel books as well as a ghostwritten autobiography of Phoolan Devi, India's Bandit Queen, had been included in a foreword.
