On a recent business trip to southern New England and New York I ran into one of those devilish go/no-go decisions where there's no clear call. The problem was simply wind. Unfortunately, there was a lot of

it at my destination of White Plains, N.Y., (KHPN). The METAR was showing 22 knots gusting to 35 and the forecast was gusts to 38.

I'm no wind weenie. In fact, the previous day involved a two-leg trip with no surface winds less than 20 knots steady and gusts to 28. I was flying a DA40, which handled the wind with aplomb despite the fact that I only have three hours in the Diamond. Still...
