Researchers at the Pennsylvania State University in Middletown, Pa., have demonstrated that a combination of ultraviolet light and metal-oxide coatings can deliver an environmentally friendly approach to keeping glass surfaces clean of biocontamination.
"Ultraviolet light has been used for years to disinfect water," said Baikun Li, an assistant professor of engineering at Penn State and the primary researcher on this project. "We expanded the concept to explore ways to prevent biofouling of glass."
