A recent survey by Software Market Research demonstrates that measurement of applications backlogs may be open to multiple interpretations. Experienced users of computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools averaged mainframe backlogs of 46 months, minicomputer backlogs of 26 moths, and PC backlogs of 19 months. This contrasts with a surveyed general MIS population that reported mainframe backlogs of 16 months, minicomputer backlogs of 12 months, and PC backlogs of six months.
