Wracked by myriad injuries that cost him a place in the 1984 Olympics, gymnast Brian Babcock overcame long odds to vault back and win a national championship the following year. The 50% chance he'll recover from his latest malady might seem easy by comparison, except that the wrong side of these odds could kill him. This time, it's cancer. "I'm going to make it," said Babcock, recovering in a Houston hospital from chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
