Baker & Taylor Books and its sister Video and SoftKat (software) distribution divisions are now being operated under a newly formed parent company--Baker & Taylor Inc. The private corporation was established last week following the official sale of the three divisions by W. R. Grace to the Carlyle Group, a private merchant banking and investment firm based in Washington, D.C. Although terms of the sale were not available at press time, industry sources maintain that mid-level management was also given the opportunity to participate in the buyout.
