Barnes & Noble, the first major bookstore chain to report sales for the fiscal year, which ended January 31, 1994, reported that total company revenues for the year rose 23%, from $1.09 billion to $1.34 billion. The increase was led by its superstores, where sales rose 87%, to an estimated $450 million. The opening of 72 new superstores accounted for most of the sales increase, although B & N said comparable superstore sales rose 8.6% in the year.
