Mohr Staff writer Principal Susan Hirst takes pride in the award her school - Hastings-Mallory Elementary in the Central Square district - received as one of 24 primary schools in the state that showed the most significant improvement in their fourth-grade mathematics and English Language Arts assessment scores. "It would be great if we could increase that much every year," she said. "But there are a lot of variables that go into test scores. ... What we look at is how each pupil does in years to come. How does that fourth-grader do when she gets to fifth grade and beyond?" ...
