John Derus is taking his quest for a new state Senate primary election to leaders of the Senate.

In a letter Wednesday, Derus' attorney, Brian Rice, asked Sens. Roger Moe, the DFL majority leader, and Dean Johnson, the Republican minority leader, to consider Derus' request for a new election in the north Minneapolis district. Rice based the request on the state Constitution's provision that the Legislature is the sole judge of its members' elections.
