Unrelenting Belief
THE FIRST FOUR OF MY ten children were boys--wide-eyed, squeaky-voiced, energetic, and mischievous. They were born to a mother who never really thought about how to raise a son. I just loved them whenever and however love was called for. I valued their tender feelings. I allowed them the tears they needed to shed. I let them play daddy with teddy bears. I held them in my lap when they needed it. I never thought about whether I was making them tough enough or strong enough.
