It was 2 in the morning Thursday when Spanish Ambassador Javier Ruperez got the phone call from Madrid informing him of the disaster: scores of civilians killed by bombs as they rode the train to work. He did not get to bed until 2 the next morning and has scarcely slept four hours on any night since, he said in an interview yesterday.
