RIO DE JANIERO--In less than 10 days, a second witness was shot dead after testifying about extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions before U.N. Special Rapporteur Asma Jahangir, who was in Brazil to prepare a report on human rights violations. Gerson Jesus Bispo was assassinated Oct. 9, two weeks after denouncing the activities of para-police squads in the northeast state of Bahia. Flavio Manoel was murdered Sept. 27 after having testified against a death squad called "the Guardian Angels" that operates in Paraiba.
