You're a decent person. You try to do the right thing. Whether or not you're 100 percent vegetarian, you're against cruelty in animal agriculture. If it cannot be totally eliminated, you want it minimized.
So you buy eggs from free-range farms and purchase only organic milk, assuming-as most people do-that they offer humane alternatives to the conditions in which chickens and cows are usually raised. Unfortunately, the economics of raising chickens, cows and other livestock make it almost impossible to practice slaughter-free animal agriculture.
