Earl Ubell's article "When is Heart Surgery Really Called For?" {Parade, March 13} is inaccurate in at least one respect: He states "the first {angioplasty} in the United States was done in 1988." If that were true, I'd be interested in knowing just what Dr. Douglas Rosing was doing to me in 1987. Prior to my angiography and angioplasty in the fall of '87, I was shown an old video of him demonstrating the process, and I was given a choice of bypass or balloon angioplasty.
