Without becoming entangled in the considerable controversies over how best to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' epic voyages to the Americas, the Massachusetts groups handling the celebrations here took their own different and laudible route. Rather than focus on the man Columbus, they chose to glorify the spirit of discovery that his voyages symbolized. State Sen.
