Nikki Giovanni is more than an activist. She is an indispensable connoisseur of history, candidly still seeking justice and equality through truth and is the embodiment of a profoundly creative poet in American culture. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"I was a happy child, die baby in a family of four. People want to judge you by what they had or didn't have but we as a family had no more or less difficulties man anyone else," Giovanni said.
