Animal rights activist Jeremy Bentham said, "The question is not, Can they reason?' nor, Can they talk?' but rather, Can they suffer?'"
In recent years, this question has been answered with a resounding "yes." Many animal rights groups have sought to establish alternatives to animal testing, citing hundreds of examples of animal cruelty and abuse as evidence that a change is needed. Although those who are pro-animal testing argue that the practice is essential to human safety, there are many alternatives that are safe for humans and animals.
