Sometimes the urge to do good just goes a bit too far.
One case in point may be a recently announced plan by a group of countries, led by France, to impose a tax on airline tickets to raise funds to help children with AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
The connection between commercial aviation and these awful maladies is tenuous to the point of invisibility in our mind. It's even more afield than the American practice - by municipalities - of imposing taxes and fees on rental cars to pay for sports stadiums.
