Los Angeles -- John Agar, the Air Force sergeant who married Shirley Temple and became an actor, mostly in Westerns and war movies until alcoholism damaged both his marriage and his career, has died. He was 81.

Agar, who lived in the North Hollywood area, died Sunday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, hospital secretary Linda Willeford said Monday night.
