I would like to respond to Joseph A. Califano Jr.'s Sept. 23 op-ed article, "Dangerous Indifference to Drugs." I have learned many important things in 40 years as a psychiatrist, founder of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, former chairman of the Education and Prevention Committee of Ronald Reagan's Presidential Commission on Drunk Driving and a father of three sons.
