In a grand leap of logic about 100 years ago, doctors pinpointed the cause of violent crime, suicide, nervous exhaustion, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, confusion, sexual dysfunction, bad skin, baldness, tuberculosis, gum disease, cancer and spinsterhood.
