The Nov. 28 editorial "Safeguarding Adoption" highlights the fears of adoptive parents that adoption could be less than stable. As an adoptive parent myself, I must strongly disagree. Rarely has adoption been more stable. Over 99 percent of adoptions are finalized without difficulty. The incident cited in the editorial -- the DeBoer case -- was the result of improper adoption practices. That adoption was ruled invalid due to the inappropriate termination of the birth father's rights. The increasing prevalence of "open adoption" also does not create fear.
