This is the first English translation of the journal Rose de Freycinet kept as she accompanied her husband Louis-Claude on the scientific voyage of his ship, the Uranie. Women were not allowed on voyages, but Rose and Louis arranged for her to come aboard disguised as a man in naval uniform.
