Two weeks ago, the state declared its intention to take the land owned by the Pillar House by eminent domain and turn it into open space. The Massachusetts Highway deputy commissioner, John Cogliano, said two appraisers had been chosen to determine a price. Then the department's real estate review board would need to approve the price, and the commission would vote on the taking of the land, he said.
