The more one reads of "Great White Fathers," by John Taliaferro, published by Public Affairs, New York, the more one gets the urge to hop into a car and actually see what Gutzon Borglum fashioned in Mount Rushmore National Park, S.D.
In fact, the book is almost more about Borglum's trials and tribulations than it is concerning the massive presidential heads he carved with dynamite and drills from the granite mountain in the Black Hills. Borglum, Taliaferro found, was infected with collossalism and pursued it relentlessly and bombastically in achieving his gigantic carvings.
