The idea of assessing assessment activities, or a meta-assessment, is noted throughout a review of the literature concerning evaluative methodologies. However, there is a lack of detailed information and conceptual models that provide data related specifically to this area of assessment. The author presents definitions for the term "assessment," exemplifies the importance of assessment in higher education, and proposes a model to be used as a guide for assessing institutional and departmental assessment activities.
