INTRODUCTION The Oxford Movement has traditionally been dated in accordance with John Henry Newman's autobiography, Apologia Pro Vita Sua. Newman stated that the movement began with a sermon delivered before the Assize judges at the University of Oxford, on 14 July 1833.
