He was miserly, vain, childish and petty, and we loved him. We just loved him. It isn't merely unbelievable that Jack Benny has been gone for two decades; it's also unfair. "Kelsey Grammer Salutes Jack Benny," a properly affectionate NBC special tonight at 10 on Channel 4, brings Benny back for a funny and touching hour. Grammer, star of NBC's "Frasier," says Benny was always a comedy model for him: "I never remember having seen him without laughing." Obviously a program like this is only as good as its clips, and the clips present Benny in peak form on shows that aired from 1950 through 1965....
