More than any other evening-length ballet, "Giselle" is all about the ballerina. The work does provide a few select opportunities for the corps to impress as a forceful, cohesive unit. But if they are a bit ragged, and if the dancers in the secondary roles are less than convincing, the ballet will still work as long as the title role is filled by a dancer who can fascinate and enchant during the first act, melt the heart in the second and sustain a mood of poetic mystery throughout.
