February's Cutting Edge column, which mentioned the fascinating scientist James Prescott Joule, reminded me of my last wedding anniversary.

In spring 2007 my husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary. In marking this special occasion, my husband planned a weekend in Vermont for us without our three children. Two years ago we inherited a small lake house on Lake Champlain. It's very rustic and has no heat. The house does have a very beautiful westerly view, but let me mention it again-it has no heat.
