It is not only home-owners who should have the right to fight back against burglars who invade their property: shop-owners - many of whom are tormented by violent criminals - ought to have that entitlement too.

If the Bill proposed by Anne McIntosh, Tory MP for the Vale of York, becomes law, they will. As we report today, Miss McIntosh's Householder Protection Bill will give the proprietors of stores who encounter burglars exactly the same right to use greater force in preventing them from stealing or vandalising their property as her Bill proposes to give home owners.
