Light snow was falling on that December evening a long time ago as we were walking home from the Christmas party at my son's school. He was 6 years old, and it was the first time I had attended a Christmas event as a parent. With my 4-year-old daughter at my side, I watched the children dance and perform their Santa Claus play, and then we all sang the traditional carols in chorus.
