The May 16 editorial "A Fresh Escape at Lorton" missed some significant financial details. The costs that are being proposed for the land swap of Laurel Hill subdivision at Lorton for Meadowood Farm at Mason Neck are outrageous, and taxpayers should not be asked to swallow them. Most of Meadowood Farm does not lend itself to septic fields (required for development) because of the sandy soil. A couple of years ago, the farm's owner, Ed Lynch, sued Fairfax County to try to force it to provide sanitary sewer service to the property.
