Hundreds of thousands of Hungarians today paid homage to the executed leaders of the country's 1956 revolution, including former Prime Minister Imre Nagy, as their remains were solemnly reburied in the same distant cemetery lot where they lay untended and unacknowledged for three decades. A crowd estimated at 250,000 persons gathered in Budapest's Heroes' Square this morning to lay wreaths and flowers by the coffins of Nagy and four associates, who were eulogized by leaders who survived the revolt's suppression by the Soviet army.
