As The Princess Bride begins, we see a young boy sitting in his bed, playing a video game. His mother comes in, and the boy complains that his grandfather is staying with him. His grandfather comes in and brings him the gift of a book that his grandfather used to read to him. The grandson is not interested, but the grandfather then opens the book and begins reading.

The story starts with Buttercup, a beautiful woman who lives on a farm. There is a handsome helper boy named Westley. Buttercup constantly asks him to do chores and his reply is always, "As you wish." One day she realizes that when he says, "As you wish," he is really saying, "I love you." Then, she realizes that she loves him too.
