Pool Games

Eddie's life revolves around pool games. Viewers first meet him when he goes to play Minnesota Fats, who is widely known as the best pool player in the country. He is Eddie's only real competition, and Eddie is cocky enough to believe that he can easily beat Fats. He almost does before drinking himself out of the game.

The audience sees Eddie's progress as a person through the way he plays pool at different times. At the beginning, he's a young cocky man with no motivation and no real commitment. Later in the film, he grows up and becomes an excellent player who truly believes in himself.

In Eddie's final pool game, he plays Minnesota Fats again, and after almost an entire day of playing, Fats gets out of the game. The gangsters there force Eddie into retirement, but during that game, we see that Eddie has...
