Context

Stand By Me celebrates the carefree days of boyhood and the friendships forged during the everyday adventures. Four boys, Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern, have created their own group and spend the long summer days hanging out in their tree house playing cards and smoking cigarettes. When Vern's older brother sees the dead body of a boy who was missing, the group decides to find the body and receive the fame after they notify the police. They go out on their big adventure and along the way have life-changing experiences. After the death of one of the group many years later, a much-older Gordie writes the story down so that he can share the pain and joy of his childhood journey.
