Light and Dark

Light and dark are major issues in the spirit world. When there is light outside, the world completely disappears from human vision, but as the night comes, one suddenly sees the world of the spirit. The bathhouse is completely obvious. The darkness helps the spirits hide their existence and their motivations. Yubaba is able to keep everyone under control simply because the darkness covers the truth of the situation. Times are dangerous in the spirit world, and Chihiro has to be especially careful not to get trapped there forever. Instead, she must do everything Yubaba and the others ask so that she can save her parents, or she too may be changed into a pig.
