Holiday Depression

Holiday depression has been a major problem for centuries. With the cold weather and many demands of the holidays, many people find themselves down in the dumps during the Christmas season. George has the same problems, and this helps viewers relate to him.

George's depression over the possibility of losing his business, as well as his general depression from the holiday, forms a story through which we get to learn about him and his life. We see that his life has actually been very important even though he does not feel that he has made a major impact on those around him. While George starts out as a depressed failure in his own eyes, he soon learns that he has given much to those around him.
