His Girl Friday is the story of Walter and Hildy, a divorced couple who met and fell in love because of their careers as reporters. As her editor, he helped her make her way in the business, but now she has come back to visit and tell him of her desire to quit reporting and her impending marriage to Bruce.

During Walter and Hildy's discussions and his attempts to break up her new love, a criminal named Earl is sentenced to death and then escapes soon after Hildy interviews him as her last reporting job. As she and Walter follow the story after Earl finds her, they end up falling in love all over again.
